Steps For Reinstalling and Updating Hardware Drivers - The drivers are nothing but software that drives your computer to work with the hardware. The problem that arises due to improper drivers or improper driver installation is device malfunction. 

The hardware device might not be detected by the computer and no functions could be carried out with the device through computer.

Basically your computer offers you to know whether the device that is connected to it works properly or not. You can check this out by just going into the control panel and then into the device manager, right clicking the device. 

There will come a message displayed “This device is working properly” under the status tab, if the device is working fine.

Otherwise, you will get an error message and the reason for the problem. So, accordingly you can find the solution for the problem. But this facility is limited to Windows computer. 

In Mac systems also you have the provision to know whether the device is working properly or not, but the way of finding it out differs.


Steps to be followed to reinstall the driver:

  • Log on to your computer as an administrator.
  • Go to Device Manager by right clicking on My Computer. (You can right click on My computer icon, if it appears on your desktop screen also)
  • Now you will see a list of devices connected to your computer.
  • Select the device for which the drivers are to be reinstalled.
  • Right-click the device, and then click Uninstall
  • Click the OK button in the pop-up menu that appears.
  • The computer will ask you whether to restart. Click Yes.


The computer will restart now and the hardware will be detected automatically.


Steps to Update drivers:

  • Log on to your computer as an administrator.
  • Now download the latest drivers for the device from internet and store it in your computer.
  • Go to Device Manager by right clicking on My Computer. (You can right click on My computer icon, if it appears on your desktop screen also)
  • In the Device Manager, locate the device you wish to update the drivers for.
  • Right-click the device and click Properties.
  • In the Properties window, click the Driver tab button.
  • In the Hardware Update Wizard, point Windows to the location of the updated drivers on your hard disk drive.
  • Once the drivers have been installed, the system may reboot.

After rebooting, the computer will use the latest drivers for the hardware and the device may function normally. This can be checked by going into device manager and checking the device status.
